Google’s Crypto Advertising Policy Refresh: What You Need to Know
Google has updated its Cryptocurrencies and related products policy in September 2023 to clarify the scope and requirements for the advertisement of cryptocurrency-related businesses and services.
Advertisers offering Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Wallets targeting France, Germany, South Korea, and the Philippines may advertise those products and services when they meet the following requirements and are certified by Google.
Advertisers offering Cryptocurrency Exchanges targeting the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and Thailand may also advertise those products and services when they meet the following requirements and are certified by Google.
The updated policy permits NFT games, but titles that offer wagering or staking require a gambling certification.
Google Revises Ad Policy to Permit NFT Ads with Restrictions
Search engine giant Google has made changes to its advertising policy concerning cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
It now permits ads related to blockchain-based NFTs, provided they meet certain criteria and do not promote gambling-related content.
Advertisers offering NFT games are allowed to promote in-game items like virtual clothing, weapons, or armor, starting from September 15, 2023.
NFT Game Advertisers Must Follow Google’s Guidelines
Google’s relaxed stance on blockchain-related ads, particularly those related to NFT gaming, is reflective of the increasing popularity of NFTs.
However, Google maintains strict rules against ads that involve gambling with NFTs or integrate NFTs into real money gambling.
This policy applies globally, and NFT gaming advertisers must adhere to Google’s Gambling and games policy while obtaining proper Google Ads certification.
Failure to comply may result in warnings and, ultimately, account suspension.
Advertisers are also reminded to respect local laws in their target regions.
